Privacy Policy

Artemisia Books is a small book publisher in North Conway, New Hampshire. This page explains what personal information we collect when you visit artemisiabooks.com, buy a book, write to us or join our newsletter, what we do with it, and the choices you have. We keep it short and plain on purpose.

What we collect

When you place an order: your name, email address, shipping address, an optional phone number (helpful for international couriers), an optional note to us, and what you ordered. Your payment is handled entirely by Stripe: we never see or store your full card number. We receive only the card brand, the last four digits, and your billing name and location so we can send you a receipt.

When you contact us: your name, email address and your message.

When you join our newsletter: your email address and, if you give it, your first name.

Automatically: like any website, our servers and our security provider record technical details such as your IP address, browser type and the pages requested. We use these for security, spam prevention and keeping the site running. We do not use advertising or analytics trackers on this site.

How we use it

• To fulfill your order: to pack and ship it, get shipping rates, send your receipt and order updates, and answer questions about it.
• To email you about the book you ordered, for example pre-order and release news. Every such email has an unsubscribe link.
• To send our newsletter, only if you signed up for it. You can unsubscribe at any time with the link in any newsletter.
• To reply to your messages.
• To keep the site secure and block spam and fraud.
• To keep the business and tax records the law requires.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising.

Who else sees it

We use a small number of trusted services to run the shop. Each receives only what it needs to do its job:

• Stripe processes payments on its own secure checkout page.
• Shippo receives your destination address so we can quote shipping costs.
• ShippingEasy and the carriers (such as USPS, UPS and FedEx) receive your name, address and, where needed, phone number and email so your order can be shipped and tracked.
• Postmark sends our order and contact emails.
• Kit manages our email lists: your email address (and first name) if you join the newsletter, and your email address, tagged with the book you ordered, if you place an order.
• Twilio sends us a text message when an order arrives, containing the order number, your name, your city and state, and the books ordered.
• Cloudflare provides our website security, delivery, spam check (Cloudflare Turnstile) and video hosting.
• Vultr hosts our servers, in the United States.

We may also disclose information when the law requires it, or to protect our rights, our customers or others.

Cookies and similar technologies

We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. To remember your cart as you browse, the site saves it in your browser’s local storage on your own device, and it stays there until you place an order or clear your browser data. Stripe’s checkout page and Cloudflare’s security and spam checks may set their own cookies or use similar technologies for payment and security purposes; see their privacy policies for details.

How long we keep it

We keep order and customer records for as long as we need them to run the business and meet tax and accounting rules, which can be several years. Contact messages are kept as long as they are useful for the conversation. Newsletter subscribers stay on the list until they unsubscribe.

Your choices

• Unsubscribe from our emails at any time using the link at the bottom of any of them.
• Ask us what personal information we hold about you, to correct it, or to delete it. We will do so, except for records we must keep for legal or accounting reasons. Use the Inquiries page to ask.
• If you are in a place with specific privacy laws, such as the European Union, the United Kingdom or California, you may have additional rights. Get in touch and we will do our best to honour them.

Security

Our website uses HTTPS encryption, access to our systems is restricted, and our payment processing is handled by Stripe. No system is perfectly secure, but we take care to protect what you share with us.

Children

This site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

International visitors

We operate from the United States, and your information is processed and stored here and by the services listed above, which may operate in other countries too. By using the site you understand that your information will be handled in this way.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy we will post the new version on this page and update the date at the top.
